As IIE/New Delhi completes a decade in India this year, here is an attempt to share stories of IIE‘s fellows and participants with our friends and well-wishers. We will bring out a story every month for the next 10 months – stories that inspire, talk about ‘change’, and stories that we feel need to be told. One such story is of Kanika Bansal, a GE Foundation Scholar-Leader from India.

La Fundación GE y el Instituto Internacional de Educación organizan un programa anual de ayuda académica muy selectivo. Este año fueron otorgadas veinte becas entre estudiantes de nivel licenciatura en distintas universidades de México, cinco de las cuales fueron conseguidas por estudiantes del Tecnológico de Monterrey, Campus Estado de México. Las becas consisten en un apoyo económico de dos mil dólares al semestre para cubrir gastos de manutención y gastos escolares durante los últimos tres años de la licenciatura.

GE Foundation, the not- a-profit-organization of General Electric, has continued to grant scholarships to Thai students who study in second year to last year in university. Currently, there are a total of 102 current and former GE grantees in Thailand, for those who study in seven majors e.g. Environment Science, Chemical, Computer Science and Physics.

In June, five students from across Canada were named winners of the GE Foundation Scholar-Leaders Program. MacEwan Bachelor of Commerce student Trent Charles was one of the five.
Trent applied to the scholarship program in March after learning of it through the MacEwan scholarship database and through a flyer at the university’s Aboriginal Education Centre.

Pornlert Lattanan, President and CEO, GE Thailand, a representative of the GE Foundation, the philanthropic organization of General Electric, congratulated seven of the GE Foundation Scholarship-Leaders Program Cohort X grantees, who graduated in academic year 2010. The scholarship is provided for those who study in majors including; accounting or management, science environment, chemistry, economics, computer apply, physics, and engineering. The scholarship covers the expense from the second year to the year of graduation. It’s offered to 10 institutes, including, Kasetsart University, Khon Kaen University, Chulalongkorn University, Chiang Mai University, King Mongkut University of Technology Thonburi, Thammasat University, Mahidol University, Prince of Songkla University, King Mongkut’s Institute of Technology North Bangkok, and King Mongkut’s Institute of Technology Lad Krabang.

TORONTO – June 21, 2011— GE and the Institute of International Education (IIE) has announced its five 2011 GE Foundation Scholar-Leaders regional winners. For the first time since its inception, the program is exclusively offering financial support and skills development opportunities to Canadian-resident Aboriginal individuals.

BANGKOK, Thailand – On August 12, 2010, two State Alumni talked about self-improvement to approximately 45 current GE Foundation Scholar-Leaders and alumni at the Jasmine City Hotel on the Annual Gathering Day 2010. The current grantees are 2nd-4th year undergraduate students from ten public universities in Thailand and they are among the most talented students in their respective schools. The program began with Fulbright and Harvard alumnus Mr. Chavapas Ongmahutmongkol talking to the students about ‘Learning for Success: Strategic Learning Skills.’ Throughout his 45-minute presentation, he shared his entrepreneurial knowledge and insights on what it takes to be successful both in study and career.

The 20-year-old Universiti Malaya (UM) first-year electrical engineering student is among 10 who received GE Foundation Scholar-Leaders Programme scholarships of US$2,000 (RM6,600) annually, for the next three years.

Kuala Lumpur – Last Wednesday, General Electric (GE) Foundation Scholar-Leaders program honors students by awarding five scholarships to five local college students. Each beneficiary will receive up to 2000 U.S. dollars scholarship per year. If the student maintains his /her outstanding performance he/she will be able to continue to receive scholarships for a period of 3 years.

Social sciences student Dawn Hart and Bolaji Elegbe, a Mathematics undergraduate, were awarded undergraduate places on the GE Foundation Scholar-Leaders network this week.
The network is designed to broaden access to education and pass on learning and leadership skills in management and business, finance, engineering, technology, and the sciences.

In July, Sandra Lewy, Business Analyst at IACCM, was invited to take part in the IIE Seminar in Budapest, part of the GE Foundation Scholar-Leaders program in Central Europe. Sandra won the Scholarship and attended the seminar five years ago while at university, and this year returned as a counsellor to share her experiences working with IACCM.

The GE Foundation and the Institute of International Education (IIE) announced today the 15 Polish winners of its regional Scholar-Leaders university scholarship program for the fifth, anniversary, year in a row.
The 15 Polish Scholar-Leaders are awarded a €3000 scholarship (€1000 annually for three years). In addition, they will also participate in supplemental activities including an international Leadership Development Program and a “Shadowing-day” spent with a GE manager. Students are also expected to engage in community volunteerism as part of their award. An independent commission evaluated and selected winners based on a combination of excellent academic accomplishments, remarkable extracurricular activities and other skills, such as involvement in student activities, volunteering, community activities and leadership skills.

In partnership with GE, the Institute of International Education (IIE) is inviting applicants for the sixth occasion to take part in the Hungarian round of the GE Foundation Scholar-Leaders regional university scholarship competition.
Students in their second year of studies for their first diploma in the fields of economics, management, engineering and technology from five selected universities in Hungary (Corvinus University of Budapest, Budapest University of Technology and Economics, University of Miskolc, University of Pécs and Pannon University (formerly University of Veszprém), who have a good command of English are eligible to apply.
